Ed Discussion

What is Ed Discussion?

Ed Discussion is a robust and scalable communications tool for your class. Students can communicate with you and their peers. Instructors and students interact by posting text comments and questions, in addition to files and other media to discussion forums.

Why should I use Ed Discussion?

Students can track discussions, and help each other clarify assignments and other concepts, enabling you to jump in to correct and/or flag posts as being particularly helpful. Math equations and software code and scripts can be shared and flagged. The code snippets can be embedded to be runnable.

How do I go about getting started?

All courses under The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering can make use of Ed Discussion within their Canvas course(s). If you do not see an option for Ed Discussion on the navigation menu on the left side of your course, you need to enable it via these steps:

Click Settings, then click the Navigation tab.
The list at the bottom shows disabled items – this is where you will see Ed Discussion. Click the three dots next to Ed Discussion, and click Enable.
Then, click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page.
