Teaching Community of Practice

The Teaching Community of Practice (TCP) is a large group of FSE faculty and instructors who come together regularly to learn about and discuss topics related to Engineering Education.  The group is open to all faculty, instructors, and learning design staff in the Fulton Schools. The group holds regular meetings on leading edge instructional topics and also supports several smaller working subgroups as requested by faculty.

There are a total of six TCP meetings per year (three each semester). Meeting topics are selected by the faculty and recent sessions have included presentations on: assessment and academic integrity in the hybrid learning environment, faculty instructional idea showcase, managing labs and group work projects, adaptive learning, teaching Generation Z, engineering education research trends, and the future of learning and teaching.  For more information on upcoming meetings, please see the calendar below.

If you would like to receive regular communication on meeting times and topics, please sign up for the Hub distribution list by emailing your request to [email protected]

Upcoming TCP Meetings

Educational Technology Workshops

Selecting educational technology tools to support course objectives and student learning can be challenging. The EdTech meetings help instructors to make informed decisions about integrating various tools into their courses by demonstrating technology options and providing expert guidance on pedagogical purpose and implementation. Meetings are co-led by EdTech experts and FSE instructors and include an educational demo of the tool followed by a short presentation on the educational benefits and discussion around how FSE faculty have leveraged the selected tool in their courses. For more information on upcoming EdTech meetings, please see the calendar below.

RISE Instructional Workshop Series

FSE Research-based Instructional Strategies in Engineering (RISE) is a year-long program designed to offer actionable instructional ideas specific to teaching and learning in engineering courses.  RISE is open to all faculty and instructors in the Fulton Schools and provides a coordinated set of workshops, discussions, mentoring, and certification, all in a community of practice model of learning and collaboration.

For more information on upcoming meetings, please see the calendar below.  If you are interested in joining the RISE cohort or attending workshop this semester, please contact Kristen Peña.

Browse and enroll in one or more of ASU’s LearnX courses to expand your knowledge on learning design, practices, and technologies. These are on-demand, self-paced Canvas training modules to support teaching and learning from the Learning Experience team (UTO).

Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL)

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) seeks to enhance excellence in STEM undergraduate education through development of a national faculty committed to implementing and advancing evidence-based teaching practices for diverse learners. ASU recently joined this network in September 2021. CIRTL uses graduate education as the leverage point to develop a national STEM faculty committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse student audiences as part of successful professional careers. Faculty may direct graduate students, teaching assistants, post-docs, or anyone interested in learning more STEM teaching and learning to CIRTL.
