Sara A twood and Kurt DeGoede for their presentation that will allow you to exp lore the possibilities of transitioning a course to MBL.\n\nJoin via Zoo m: https://asu.zoom.us/j/82583296831\n\n \;\n\nGuest Speaker Bios\n\ nSara Atwood joined Elizabethtown College as an Assistant Professor of E ngineering in 2010\, where she subsequently became Chair of the Engineer ing Department and was named the first Dean of the newly formed School o f Engineering\, Math\, and Computer Science in June 2020. She earned her B.A. and M.S. in Engineering Science at Dartmouth College and her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. Atwood is passionate about engineering education at teaching-focused in stitutions\, integrating engineering and the liberal arts\, and engaging students from historically excluded identities in engineering. She has been recently recognized as a thought-leader in mastery-based engineerin g pedagogy\, co-authoring a book chapter in the Mechanical Engineering E ducation Handbook and giving workshops at a variety of institutions and conferences. Atwood has been highly engaged in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) throughout her career and is the recipient of the Mara Washburn Early Engineering Educator Grant from the Women in Engineering Division as well as co-authoring the Best Diversity\, Equity \, and Inclusion Paper in 2018. Atwood serves as an ABET program evaluat or\, has published in the Journal of Engineering Education\, and has rec eived over $2 million in engineering education funding from the NSF. In her “other life” she is mom to 3-year-old Tessa and can be found on the playground and watching toddler ballet lessons.\n\nDr. Kurt DeGoede completed a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michiga n after earning a B.S. in Engineering Physics from Hope College\, and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Bet ween degrees\, he worked as a project manager at Ford Motor Company.  H e has focused his research on multidisciplinary biomechanics projects\, collaborating with local physicians\, faculty\, and students in Occupati onal Therapy and Athletics. He teaches across the curriculum from 1st-se mester students in all disciplines of engineering to 4th-year students i n Mechanical engineering\, using an active/coaching style in the classro om. He has published numerous papers on engineering teaching pedagogy\, including award-winning techniques in mastery-based assessments. Dr. DeG oede also developed a study abroad program in West Africa built around c ollaborative social enterprise projects. Word on the street is that he e scapes from faculty meetings by literally running off to cross country/t rack practices\, bicycles to campus in ill-advised conditions\, and hack s away on the tenor sax with the college jazz band.
