Jonathan McMichael
LEARNING EXPERIENCE DESIGNER
What I Do
As a Learning Experience Designer, I collaborate with faculty and course instructors to create environments and experiences that help all FSE students learn and thrive. While there is no “one size fits all” for every learner or learning objective, I use principles of instructional design to develop solutions that build a foundation for all to excel. I see myself as a co-educator and value building productive relationships that result in student success.
What I Did
My journey to the Hub has been a decade-long migration westward through college campuses. Starting at UNC at Chapel-Hill and continuing at SMU in Dallas, I was an academic librarian that primarily focused on early undergraduate success and information literacy instruction. In these roles, I designed research assignments, developed university-wide curriculum, implemented student success initiatives that improved retention and graduation rate, and trained colleagues and course instructors on the principles and practice of high-impact teaching.
What I Studied
I have a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
What I Like
I love activity, discovery, and quality time. Spending time with my wife and two pups is my top priority outside of work but I also find time for golf, basketball, cooking, and outdoor adventuring. I love learning and am easily fascinated so I am always teaching myself something new.
