 Mastery-based learning is traditionally viewed as a system wherein stude
 nts move on to the next topic only upon demonstrating mastery of the pre
 vious one\, often in an asynchronous format. However\, in a university s
 etting with fixed semesters\, how can we leverage the benefits of master
 y-based learning? In this community of practice\, we will explore how to
  apply mastery-based assessment strategies in synchronous\, traditional 
 learning environments. We will look at ways to implement some of these s
 trategies in undergraduate engineering courses and discuss the strengths
  and limitations of these strategies.
