We’re excited to introduce the Spring 2026 Book Club, featuring The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster. This short dystopian story imagines a future where humanity lives in isolation, fully dependent on an all-powerful Machine for connection, comfort, and knowledge, at the cost of original thought, human relationships, and physical experience.
The book offers a compelling entry point into Principled Innovation, which pairs technical excellence with ethical foresight, human-centered design, and moral accountability. The Machine Stops shows what can happen when these elements are absent, making it a timely and thought-provoking read for the spring semester.
The book club meets every three weeks over Zoom for insightful, thought-provoking conversations focused on connecting the book’s ideas to our own teaching, research, and professional practice. Sessions are designed to be welcoming, reflective, and practical, offering space to explore how the themes of the text show up in our real-world work.
Please contact Stefani Jenkins to inquire about physical/audiobook options.
