If AI can do the assignment, what do we actually want students to learn from it?

In this hands-on session, we’ll start with something concrete: bring an assignment or activity and see what happens when you give it to AI. What can AI do well? What can it bypass? And if it can produce the final product we were asking students to create, what does that mean for the assignment?

From there, we’ll use UnBloom’s Taxonomy as one lens for rethinking what we ask students to do. The framework shifts attention away from simply producing an answer and toward the thinking behind it—such as critique, judgment, reflection, and intentional decisions about when and how to use AI.

Together, we’ll consider how UnBlooms—and other approaches to thinking about learning—might help us adjust assignments so that the work students do still supports the learning we care about.
