SUMMARY:Fulton Schools of Engineering Education Seminars (SEEdS) - Adapt
 ive Learning with Saurav Kumar
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Schools of Engineering Education Seminars (SEEdS)\n\n
Does Adaptive Teaching Improve Flipped Classrooms? Insights from applyin
g adaptive learning to a higher-level course at three universities\n\nGu
 est Speaker: Saurav Kumar\n\nDate: September 20\, 2024 | 12:00 - 1:00pmÂ
  MST\n\nLocation: Zoom\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSeminar Description: Saurav Kumar w
ill present findings from a recent experiment comparing three instructio
nal methods for teaching Numerical Methods: traditional lecture\, flippe
d classroom\, and flipped adaptive approaches. Conducted at ASU in colla
boration with two other institutions\, the experiment was part of a rece
ntly concluded NSF project. This seminar will explore not only the compa
rative effectiveness of these methods but also the challenges and opport
unities encountered when implementing flipped and flipped adaptive strat
egies within existing infrastructure constraints. Kumar will also examin
e student responses and engagement levels with each teaching method\, of
fering insights into their effectiveness and impact on learning outcomes
.\n\n\n\nSaurav is an Assistant Professor at the School of Sustainable E
ngineering and the Built Environment. His research is focused on satelli
te and aerial remote sensing to better understand water systems.  Saura
v has been Co-PI for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project
to understand how flipped classrooms change by integrating personalized
and adaptive learning experiences into undergraduate courses. This proje
ct\, in collaboration with the University of South Florida\,  Alabama A
&amp\;M University\, and Arizona State University\, seeks to enhance stu
dent engagement and learning outcomes through innovative flipped classro
om methodologies and adaptive pre-class content. In this talk\, he will
present some of the lessons from the study at three sites.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\
n\n\nMore about Fulton Schools of Engineering Education Seminars (SEEdS)
\n\nLTH will continue to host monthly guest speaker seminars for the com
munity to regularly learn about and discuss topics related to Engineerin
g Education. The seminars\, formerly known as the Teaching Community of
Practice (TCP)\, are open to anyone interested in the FSE community.\n\n
