Embracing and Integrating the Entrepreneurial Mindset:
This session will guide faculty in cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset in engineering students by connecting classroom learning to societal needs and fostering lifelong curiosity. Through practical teaching strategies, faculty will empower students to think innovatively and address real-world challenges.

Dr. Douglas Melton is an electrical engineer, an engineering educator and researcher, and an advocate for the intentional development of an entrepreneurial mindset and character in engineering graduates because they are critical contributors to the U.S. workforce and economy. Their contributions profoundly impact society and everyday life.
Since 2012, Dr. Melton has served as Program Director for the Kern Family Foundation. In that role, he helped grow a network of multiple university partners, known as KEEN, who share the mission of developing entrepreneurially minded engineers. Through joint work with the faculty at partner universities, Dr. Melton has established the Engineering Unleashed Faculty Development program, coupling the teaching, research, and service aims of faculty members to this shared mission. The program serves hundreds of faculty members across the country annually.
Before work at the Kern Family Foundation, Dr. Melton was a faculty member for seventeen years within the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Kettering University. He has served as the Director of Product Research & Development for Digisonix Incorporated. The team at Digisonix developed a range of patented active sound and vibration control technology used today in aircraft, vehicles, and building infrastructure.
